Use Scribe and Scribe + Assist

Keep a transcript, add researched answers when you need them, and switch during the same conversation.

Choose a starting mode

Choose Scribe for a transcript, session title and summary, or Scribe + Assist to add useful research and answers. Check your audio sources, then start listening. You can set a starting preference in Settings → Listening. Automatic listening has its own starting preference.

Your preference is a starting point. You can change modes during the conversation without ending it or creating another recording.

Switch while listening

In the full session window or Floating, choose Scribe on the left of the mode control to stop new research. Choose Assist on the right to add it. The transcript continues in both modes, and answers already received remain available.

In Mini-floating, the attached badge shows a small s for Scribe or a for Scribe + Assist. Click the badge to switch. Click the lisnio logo to return to Floating. Hiding or changing the view does not pause listening.

You can choose a mode while paused; it is used when you resume. Pause and Stop listening remain separate controls.

When Assist minutes run out

If you have Scribe minutes, lisnio changes to Scribe automatically and keeps the conversation going. Assist stays unavailable until Assist minutes are available again. Click its control to see the explanation.

The same rule applies when starting manually, with a shortcut or automatically: if Assist minutes are exhausted and Scribe minutes remain, the session starts in Scribe. Your saved preference is kept. Adding minutes makes Assist available again; you decide when to turn it on.

If neither mode has minutes available, listening pauses and the captured conversation is saved. Review Settings → Billing before resuming.

What Scribe saves

Scribe transcribes your selected audio sources and keeps the transcript on your Mac. It also keeps audio for playback when Save audio recordings locally is on.

After End, it writes a title and summary from the transcript. These may finish afterward. You can rename the recording yourself; your title takes priority.

Scribe does not start new research or live answers. Live audio is processed online for transcription, and transcript text is processed online to write the title and summary. See Storage and privacy controls.

Check the minutes used

Scribe and Assist have separate allowances. Each listening minute uses one minute from the selected mode’s balance. Scribe + Assist includes transcription, so it uses only Assist minutes. Paused time does not count.

Open Settings → Usage to see time spent in each mode within the same session. Older usage entries keep their original accounting. Read Session usage for details.
